Kahuna is a very Ancient yet Ever-New unique, effective & wonderful healing modality where the practitioner uses his/her hands, forearms and elbows to give a massage and nurture the client.
Unique to Hawaiian massage are long & fluid strokes, skillful underbodywork and a constant alternation between deep pressure work with elbows & forearms and nurturing hand massage.
Music is played during the massage. Dynamic breathing and dance movements are the source of energy and rhythm in Kahuna. At times the practitioner dances around the table using hula or tai chi style movements, which help him/her to attune to the natural rhythms of the clients body; to harmonise body, mind and soul; to massage with flow and continuity and sometimes even to enter in a trance-like state.
Kahuna Massage works by stimulating the natural flow of energy within the body in order to bring about changes in the physical, emotional and spiritual areas. Stress and tension is released so that energy can flow freely once more. It is also deeply relaxing and rejuvenating.

Traditionally, Hawaiian massage played a very important role in the daily life of the Hawaiian people and especially in the life of the upper class like Kings and Priests. It was also an integral part of the Rites of Passage.

A note on the difference between Kahuna Massage and Lomi Lomi: Kahuna massage and Lomi Lomi are distinct yet related Hawaiian massage techniques. Kahuna massage, also known as Hawaiian Temple Bodywork, is both a physical and spiritual practice, often involving rituals and meditations, performed by healer-practitioners known as Kahunas. It focuses on holistic healing, using long, flowing strokes that vary in intensity. Lomi Lomi, in contrast, primarily emphasizes physical relaxation and healing. It is less ritualistic, utilizing similar long, continuous strokes, often with the forearms, to promote muscle relaxation and stress relief. While both share Hawaiian roots and use flowing movements, Kahuna massage incorporates a deeper spiritual element compared to the more relaxation-focused Lomi Lomi.

Receiving my first Kahuna massage 17 years ago was a deeply transformational experience. The wonderful therapist at the Sydney Kahuna Centre took me on a journey; - a trance-like state in which I felt like being massaged by the ocean, while caressed by playful dolphins and cradled like a child. My body was tingling and vibrating with vitality as I stepped out of the centre, thinking ‘Wow what was that’.
From this nurturing experience, my curiosity and love for Kahuna were awakened and I started my Kahuna journey as a student with Mette Sorenson at the High Spirit Retreat on the Sunshine Coast Australia. Over the years I completed 6 levels of training. My time at the High Spirit retreat was a truly life-changing experience as I learned to accept, embrace and love my body, to get in touch with my dreams, and have the courage to follow them.
I have been working as a Kahuna therapist for the last 16 years, for a few years at massage centers such as the Sydney Kahuna and the Gaya Retreat but mainly from home. I also trained in Shiatsu and Thai Massage but have always come back to Kahuna as my preferred bodywork modality as I love the flowing continuous movements, that feel like a dance with the body and allow me to drop into a no-mind state, being guided by something beyond my mind.
My professional journey has been very versatile, as I have always loved to grow, learn and explore. From being a tailor, a lawyer, a bicycle importer, a dance facilitator, a graphic designer, and for the last few years an airbrush body artist & photographer; all these journeys have helped me to discover and evolve my real gifts and talents, naturally fusing my greatest passions, being Healing & Art which has led me to my true calling … to live a life filled with creativity, colors, and beauty as I truly love what I’m doing blending ARTFUL HEALING with HEALING ART. Through my Kahuna work and airbrush body art I love to create for people a sacred space and facilitate deep healing that goes beyond the physical, as I like to encourage and inspire people to love, embrace and celebrate their bodies.
